The SONOFF MINI-ZBRBS is a compact yet powerful Zigbee-based module intended to modernize conventional roller shutters, blinds, curtains, awnings, or similar motorised shading systems into a fully automated, connected smart home component. Designed especially to fit into standard in-wall junction boxes or behind wall switch plates, it enables intelligent control, scheduling, and scene automation without requiring wholesale replacement of your existing motor or switching infrastructure.
At its core, the MINI-ZBRBS acts as a smart motor controller: it intercepts the commands from your Zigbee hub or gateway and relays signals to your shutter motor for open, close, and stop actions. More than just a passive module, it supports fine percentage-based positioning, meaning you can instruct your curtains or blinds to open to, say, 35 %, 70 %, or any precise value in between — giving you better control over ambient light, privacy, and energy balance.
One of its standout advantages is its local scene execution capability: once you define automation scenes or timers via your Zigbee hub, these rules are executed locally on your network, ensuring fast responsiveness even if your internet connection is lost. In addition to its primary role, the module doubles as a Zigbee repeater/router, helping strengthen and extend your Zigbee mesh network coverage — a welcome bonus in homes where signal reliability is critical.
To compensate for mechanical inconsistencies and wear over time, the MINI-ZBRBS incorporates motor travel calibration routines. By “learning” the true physical limits (fully open vs fully closed), it refines the positioning accuracy, reduces overshoot, and helps prolong the life of your motor.
Despite its smart capabilities, it remains compatible with traditional wall switches. If you prefer or need tactile, manual control, you can wire a conventional switch (S1 / S2 inputs) so pressing a button will still command open/close/stop, preserving conventional operation alongside smart control.
Finally, the design is compact — small enough to integrate into most standard 60 mm or 80 mm European-style boxes (depth permitting) — making it suitable even for retrofits. With support for popular smart home ecosystems (e.g. Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, eWeLink, voice assistants via hub bridging), it offers a flexible path to add curtain and shutter intelligence to your home.
